Nienburg

As I mentioned, we went to visit friends in Nienburg at the weekend.  Before they lived there, I hadn't heard of the city but it was bigger than I expected and really nice - very typically German.

Unfortunately it was raining on the day we visited so we didn't brave the walk into town until later in the afternoon and missed the street festival (which I suspect was a wash out with the weather anyway).
Wherever you go in the city centre there are painted bear foot prints to show where different tourist sights are. Unfortunately we didn't know enough about the sights but that didn't put Isabella off, she loved bear hunting!

There's a huge church with a concert every Saturday morning, lots of shops and a cafe area on the banks of the Weser - the same river that flows through Bremen.
It was great to catch up with our friends.  We'll definitely be heading back there when the weather is nicer and taking a guided tour.  Then I'll be able to share more about Nienburg!

Travel Wishes

Well I am out of past trips to share with you on a Tuesday so this week, I thought I would have a look at some of the places I hope to get to some time soon.

We're going to Scotland for our honeymoon and hopefully spending a couple of days discovering the capital together.  I love the atmosphere in Edinburgh and the beautiful landscapes in the country and I can't wait to see them with Nico.

In April, I am heading to London with one of my favourite classes.  Looking forward to that!

When thinking about which capital to visit next, I'm really stuck between Vienna and Copenhagen.  We're thinking of heading to one or the other in Autumn.

Although neither of us are really beach holiday people, we are thinking about a trip where we get a little more sun and relaxation at some point and Croatia is on both of our must see lists...maybe next year!

Paris!

This trip has featured on the blog before - way back in the early days but deserves another post.  Whereas we took my Dad to Edinburgh for his 50th, I surprised my Mum for hers by gatecrashing her trip to Paris and bringing tickets for the Louvre.  It was a bit of a whistle stop tour for me as I was just there for the weekend and had to be back in Germany on Monday for work.

Town Tour

So today ten colleagues accompanied 100+ pupils around Bremen.  We started off at the cathedral at 10am.  One of the five tour guides didn't show so we had to put two classes together.  Unfortunately this didn't make things easy for us or the guide as the kids quickly got distracted or bored.  The 30 degrees weather didn't help either and most of them are not used to walking far - although through the town centre and Schnoor is not exactly far.

Some of the information I had heard on my last tour but there was a fair amount of new information too which was interesting and I understood much more on this two hour tour with 40 kids than I had on a one hour tour with four adults so my listening skills must be better - which they should be after almost a year here!

Following the two hour tour, we spent an hour in the park where the kids could do what they liked (within reason).  Most were happy with this.  You would think they all would be considering it was a day out of the classroom, but no.  The other surprise of the day was that 12 year olds find it necessary to wear tights in thirty degree weather!?

Tomorrow is the open air fun pool which could be interesting if the weather changes before the predicted 12 noon.  We shall see....
