A Visitor

Check out this cheeky little guy who has started popping by to steal the bird food from the balcony. He lives in the trees at the back of our flat and regularly greets me on the front doorstep on a morning. I love Spring.

Bird watching

Last week Nico ordered a camcorder so that, among other things, we can take some videos at the wedding.  He has been experimenting already and on Saturday managed to capture this fantastic shot of a little bird who is living in the bird house next to our front balcony (a present from Nico's grandad).  Obviously the birds are very shy so this was a great use of the camcorder and a pleasure to watch.

It's stork season near us - just look at this beauty we spotted yesterday on our way back from Bremen.

Hedgehog Alert!

source

On my walk on Sunday I came the closest I've ever been to a hedgehog!!  I have seen one before but never this big, brown or close.  I was just walking up the hill in the park near our flat and out of the corner of my eye so some movement and there he was just next to the path.  Instead of being frightened away he walked right into my path and then back into the bush.  I have to say, I was really surprised at how fast he was.  I always thought they were really slow like tortoises and that's why they have to curl up to stave off predators but not so!  His legs were very long and quick.  After the baby red squirrel last week and the bird on the balcony this week (thankfully Pete wasn't here for that) I think my wildlife experiences here in Huchting are on the up!

Disclaimer - the above photo is not mine.  Unfortunately I didn't have the camera with me (and would probably have been to slow if I had had).  You can find the lovely picture as a wallpaper here.

After ducks, wasps, dragonflies... here is our latest vistor in the neighbourhood - a stork!
