A Clockwork Orange

source
I finished my first November classic in just three days.  After my initial mistake of ordering the novel in German, I realised my German is not all that bad but this book is written in its own language.  Actually, lots of the words are mangled versions of Russian vocabulary so I had half a chance from my days studying Russian, but even without that you do get used to the style and the new words.

The themes of the book itself were also interesting.  It was almost a little big brotherish and and for the time it was written in, it had surprising foresight.  I've heard that the film is quite violent and dramatic but I didn't feel that from the book.  Maybe it's because of the language used but in the book it seemed more distant.

I think it is studied in some schools and I can see why with the focus being on youth and growing up.  I don't want to spoil the story for those who haven't read it yet so I'll say no more but I highly recommend this book.
