Hedgehog Alert!

source

On my walk on Sunday I came the closest I've ever been to a hedgehog!!  I have seen one before but never this big, brown or close.  I was just walking up the hill in the park near our flat and out of the corner of my eye so some movement and there he was just next to the path.  Instead of being frightened away he walked right into my path and then back into the bush.  I have to say, I was really surprised at how fast he was.  I always thought they were really slow like tortoises and that's why they have to curl up to stave off predators but not so!  His legs were very long and quick.  After the baby red squirrel last week and the bird on the balcony this week (thankfully Pete wasn't here for that) I think my wildlife experiences here in Huchting are on the up!

Disclaimer - the above photo is not mine.  Unfortunately I didn't have the camera with me (and would probably have been to slow if I had had).  You can find the lovely picture as a wallpaper here.
